The NHL has officially announced it will hold a series of two outdoor games at Lake Tahoe next month, with the Vegas Golden Knights as one of the featured teams.
The Golden Knights will play the Colorado Avalanche at noon on Saturday, Feb. 20, on Edgewood Tahoe's golf course along the south shore.
Called Bridgestone NHL Outdoors Saturday, the game will officially be a Colorado home contest and will air on News 3.
The NHL says the rink will be on the lakefront 18th fairway of the course, which normally plays host to the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament.
"The Vegas Golden Knights are extremely grateful for the opportunity to play our first-ever outdoor game in beautiful Lake Tahoe, a truly majestic location for our sport to return to its roots," Golden Knights owner Bill Foley said in a statement.
The other game, called Honda NHL Outdoors Sunday, will feature the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday, Feb. 21.
All four teams will wear their reverse retro jerseys for the games. Both games will be held without fans.
Reports surfaced earlier this month that the NHL was exploring holding a pair of outdoor games at Tahoe.
The league's traditional outdoor games, the Winter Classic and Stadium Series, were canceled due to the shortened season.
It's the first time the Golden Knights will take part in an outdoor regular-season game in their three-plus years of play.
