NASSAU COUNTY, NY (SBG) — Nassau County officials and police in New York have a warning for the public as the July 4th holiday approaches.
On Thursday, officials gathered in an empty field to demonstrate the dangers of fireworks and how to properly handle them.
"As you can see, it doesn't take much for that piece of clothing to start catching on fire," one of the officials said while demonstrating the dangers of sparklers. "And when it comes to children with sparklers, most of the injuries are related to their hands and their feet."
As part of the demonstration, fireworks were placed inside a watermelon to show what can happen when fireworks explode.
