More than 40,000 people came together virtually on Saturday as part of the virtual St. Jude Walk/Run to cure childhood cancer.

The run was held Saturday as part of childhood cancer awareness month and allowed participants to walk, run and fundraise at their own pace and distance in their own neighborhoods.

The event used the St. Jude Walk/Run mobile app, available on iOS and Android. The app allowed participants to track their activity and raise funds from the palm of their hands.

All money raised goes to St. Jude, the children's hospital that has helped increase the childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent 80 percent over the course of the last 60 years.
