The American Hockey League announced Wednesday that it was pushing the anticipated start of its season, and therefore the debut of the Henderson Silver Knights, from December 1 to February 5.

Henderson Born fans will have to wait a little longer to see their team take the ice.

The American Hockey League announced Wednesday that it was pushing the anticipated start of its season from December 1 to February 5.

That means the debut of the Henderson Silver Knights has been delayed but a little more than two months.

In a statement, the AHL cited the ongoing coronavirus pandemic for the delay.

"The AHL continues to work with its member clubs to monitor developments and local guidelines in all 31 league cities," the statement reads. "Further details regarding the 2020-21 American Hockey League season are still to be determined."

The Vegas Golden Knights announced they purchased the AHL team license from the former San Antonio Rampage earlier this year and would relocate the team to Henderson.

Orleans Arena will serve as the Silver Knights' home arena for their first season, with a new events center under construction in the Green Valley neighborhood of Henderson to serve as their future home.
