A girl has been killed and a boy wounded in a stabbing and beating discovered Monday morning in the south-central Las Vegas valley.

Police say this discovery is tied to a domestic violence attack that occurred Sunday night near East Craig Road and North Nellis Boulevard.

The incident was reported just before 11:20 a.m. Monday at Budget Suites, 8440 Las Vegas Boulevard South, near East Wigwam Avenue, according to Officer Jay Rivera of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Police say a 12-year-old girl was fatally stabbed in the chest and a 15-year-old boy was critically beaten, causing skull fractures. LVMPD has identified the children's father, Marcus Maddox, 30, as the suspect. They also say he tried to kill his estranged wife, as well as himself, at Siegel Suites, 5230 E. Craig Road.

Maddox was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, and his estranged wife was found severely beaten.

Maddox was booked in absentia into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of: attempt murder with use of a deadly weapon; mayhem with use of a deadly weapon; battery resulting in substantial bodily harm; discharging a gun at or into an occupied structure; possession of a gun by a prohibited person. More charges are expected to be added.

Detectives are seeking information on the whereabouts and movement of Maddox over the last 24 to 48 hours.

Sources close to the case tell News 3, the 12-year-old reportedly told a school nurse she had been sexually assaulted by her father. The claim was apparently being investigated by CPS, and Maddox was allegedly told to stay away from his daughter until the investigation was complete.
