Connie Land stood at the microphone at the Metro Police Headquarters Wednesday afternoon. Her message: She wants the public to help her uncover her daughter’s murderer.

On Oct. 27, 2016, 21-year-old Sydney Land and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Nehemiah Kauffman were gun downed in their apartment near Hualapai Way and Flamingo Road.

Police say the man who was once a “person of interest” is no longer and this leaves them looking for new clues. Police believe whoever committed this brutal crime knew the couple. There were no signs of forced entry. Police did not recover a weapon at the crime scene, but say the two were shot at point-blank range.

Land said her daughter was an innocent victim of the crime, but without a lead, the crime is considered a cold case.

"I'm grateful for this as a new beginning,” said Land.

Land says her biggest questions is why anyone with clues would not come forward. She feels her daughter’s murder is solvable, but not without the help of people who may know the crucial details of that day.

Land asks anyone who has clues as to what happened can help police by leaving an anonymous tip. Call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
